Saudi Arabia is set to claim the title of hosting the world’s tallest skyscraper with the resumption of construction on the Jeddah Tower. The ambitious project, overseen by the Jeddah Economic Company (JEC), is expected to reach a staggering height of over 1,000 meters (1 km), surpassing the current record-holder, Dubai’s Burj Khalifa, by a significant 172 meters.
The JEC has initiated the bidding process for this historic construction, with bids expected to be finalized by the end of the year. Several industry heavyweights, including Almabani, Bawani, China Harbour, and Samsung C+T, have been invited to present their proposals. Given the scale and prestige of the project, it is anticipated that joint ventures, combining both local and international expertise, will be formed.
Contractors have been given a three-month window to prepare their bids, with many undertaking site visits to familiarize themselves with the upcoming construction challenges. The Jeddah Tower is not just an architectural feat but also a symbol of luxury and grandeur. It is planned to be the centerpiece of the Jeddah Economic City development, which will span a vast area of 1.5 square kilometers.
The tower promises to offer a range of residential spaces, from 2-bedroom suites to luxurious 6-bedroom units, catering to diverse needs. In addition to upscale shopping malls, exquisite boutiques, gourmet dining establishments, and recreational facilities such as tennis courts, the tower will also feature the highest ever built observation deck. A luxurious Four Seasons hotel, premium office spaces, and opulent condominiums are also part of the plan.
Construction of the Jeddah Tower began in 2013 but has faced several delays due to financial challenges, design changes, and other factors. As of now, there is no set completion date for the tower. However, the resumption of construction marks a significant step forward in the realization of this architectural marvel that is set to redefine the skyline of Saudi Arabia and the world.
