The Ajman Transport Authority has announced a new taxi fare for the month of September, marking an increase from the previous rate. The fare has been set at Dh1.90 per kilometre, reflecting a 6-fil rise from the August rate of Dh1.84 per kilometre.
This adjustment comes as fuel prices in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) continue to climb for the third consecutive month. The cost of Super 98 petrol has risen to Dh3.42 per litre, up from Dh3.14 in August. Similarly, the price of Special 95 has increased from Dh3.02 to Dh3.31. E-Plus 91 is now priced at Dh3.23, marking a 9.5 percent or 28 fils increase.
Despite these increases, it’s important to note that local rates in the UAE are still approximately one-third cheaper compared to the global average. This announcement was made on Thursday, September 1st, 2023, as part of the regular updates on transport and fuel costs in the emirate.
The decision to adjust the taxi fare is directly linked to the rising fuel prices in the country. As fuel constitutes a significant portion of operational costs for taxis, changes in fuel prices often lead to adjustments in taxi fares.
While this may impact the cost of travel for residents and visitors in Ajman, the authority assures that the fare adjustment is necessary to maintain the sustainability of the taxi service in the Emirates amidst fluctuating fuel prices.
