Dubai, UAE – The United Arab Emirates is known for its luxurious lifestyle and high-end amenities. However, when it comes to commuting between its two major cities, Dubai and Abu Dhabi, there are several affordable options available that don’t compromise on comfort or convenience.
The Humble Bus: A Popular Choice
The bus remains a popular choice for many commuters due to its affordability and comfort. In the UAE, buses are typically equipped with modern conveniences and offer impressively short travel times.
Route 101, operated by the RTA, offers services from Abu Dhabi to Ibn Battuta bus station in Dubai, and vice versa, at a cost of just Dhs25. The average journey time is approximately 100 minutes.
Another option is the E100 service, which connects Abu Dhabi Central Bus Station with Al Ghubaiba (Al Shindagha) in Dubai for the same price, taking about 135 minutes in total.
These services start around 4am, with the last bus departing at roughly 1am, and departures occur approximately every half hour.
Airline Shuttle Services
Both Etihad and Emirates airlines offer shuttle services between Dubai and Abu Dhabi for confirmed passengers.
These services can be booked simultaneously with airfare, providing an additional level of convenience for travelers. Additionally, Abu Dhabi Airport operates a 24/7 shuttle service between Ibn Battuta station and all terminals of Abu Dhabi International Airport.
This service, known as the AUH Express, departs hourly and costs just Dhs35.
Free Shuttle Services for Theme Park Visitors
For those visiting the Yas Theme Parks, free return shuttle bus connections are available from certain pick-up points in Dubai, such as the Mall of the Emirates. This service is available to all park ticket holders.
Other Intercity Services
The RTA also operates services connecting Dubai with other emirates. The E700 service connects Dubai to Fujairah at a cost of Dhs55, while the E400 and E306 services connect Dubai to Ajman and Sharjah respectively.
Additionally, RAKTA operates a direct intercity weekend service between Abu Dhabi and Ras Al Khaimah, with fares starting from Dhs35.
Future Developments in UAE Transit
Looking ahead, the Etihad Rail Passenger service, which will link all seven emirates, is currently under development. Although no official completion date has been announced, it is expected to carry more than 36.5 million passengers annually by 2030.
Whether you’re a resident or a visitor, there are numerous affordable options for traveling between Dubai and Abu Dhabi. These services not only save money but also offer the opportunity to relax, work, or even sleep during the journey.
