Dubai is set to celebrate Saudi National Day with a spectacular display of fireworks this weekend. The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has a tradition of paying tribute to its neighboring nation, Saudi Arabia, on its National Day, which falls on September 23 each year. This year, Dubai Parks and Resorts will host a grand fireworks show to mark the occasion.
The firework display, themed around the colors of the Saudi flag – green and gold, will take place on Saturday, September 23. Visitors can witness the spectacle in two separate shows scheduled for 7pm and 9pm. The event promises to be a family-friendly affair, illuminating the skies above Riverland Dubai in honor of the Kingdom’s 93rd National Day.
While at the venue, guests can also partake in various family-oriented activities and explore the different theme parks located within the resort, including Legoland, Motiongate, and Legoland Water Park. For those planning a short staycation, the Polynesian-themed Lapita Hotel and Rove At The Park offer perfect accommodation options.
History
Saudi National Day commemorates the unification of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which took place in 1932 when the nations of Najd and Hijaz unified under the name of Saudi Arabia. The name was derived from the House of Saud, the family of the country’s first ruler, King Abdulaziz Ibn Saud. The date of September 23 was first recognized as a special day in 1965 through a royal decree.
In addition to the firework display, several other celebrations are expected throughout the UAE for Saudi National Day, including staycations, afternoon teas, and much more.
